What We Believe

We are a Progressive Christian church, sharing a message of extravagant welcome and love.

We believe that each person is on a spiritual journey and that each of us is at a different place of that journey. We trust that the search is a way of growing into an authentic relationship with God.

Progressive Christians take the Bible seriously, but not literally, recognizing that scripture is grounded in a historical context, and that God’s truth continues to be revealed in new ways. Churches in the United Church of Christ have shared the message, God is still speaking, which leaves room for hearing the wisdom and guidance of God in a variety of sources -- through prayer, through worship, through engaging in this world in just and loving ways.

We believe that love, not judgment is at the heart of God’s message, and that we’re called to love widely and seek the fullness of life for all people. Since 1991, we have been an Open and Affirming congregation in the United Church of Christ, and welcome all persons, gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, into the full life and leadership of the church.

We believe we are called to live out our faith, that ‘to care, is to do,’ which means tending to needs locally and globally, acting on behalf of others and our environment, addressing issues of injustice and peace, and serving to advance God’s realm on earth.

We value differences among Christian traditions, and seek to be in conversation with other faith traditions. In the spirit of the United Church of Christ, we believe ‘love and unity in the midst of our diversity are our greatest assets.
